Balance (or equilibrium) is one of my Simple 7 principals but what the heck is it? Often balance feels like an illusion. I embrace it as I age, but it is a daily dynamic that requires constant adjustment.

I describe balance of energy as a simple math equation.

A + B + C= a positive or negative number.

A= how much energy your body gives you (cortisol, thyroid, glucose, etc).

B= how much energy you give the world.

C= how much energy the world gives you.

If at the end of the day you have a positive number, you have a surplus- good deal. If you have a surplus, you have energy to give and can choose what to do with it. This feels good, actually this feels great. You have evening energy, you sleep, wake up and feel totally rested. You are more connected to the world around you. Life is great.

If at the end of the day you have a negative number, your body is really tired. You sit, you might compensate by eating or drinking or smoking. You do not sleep well and are disconnected from the world. If someone comes and asks you for energy, you do not have it to give and so you do not. Sometimes, that makes us feel bad. We question who we are becoming. Ultimately, however, it is just an energy issue. This is not who you are becoming. You are the same person you have always been but with less balance.

With the understanding of balance, you can see that there are millions of ways to change the energy of your day. You just have to start somewhere. Put one foot in front of the other, and keep going.

Energy my friends- is precious. Simply put, without balance, there is no energy.
