Yesterday I went on a walk as I so frequently do….long ones.

The sun was shining bright. It was warm and really windy- a good day to be Mary Poppins if only I had an umbrella.

I expected to see a snake but actually saw about 3. I used to be afraid of snakes but now not so much. I enjoyed seeing the birds and dogs.

But I did not expect to see four families and several individuals.  I did not expect to see people look at me in the eyes (from 6 feet away of course) and say hello. I did not expect for the 2 little girls when I got close to home to stop what they were doing and look up to say hello to me and wave. I did not expect any of that at all.

See, I have been walking my long walks for years. I feel as if I have been trying to look at people in the eyes but not many looked back. I love looking people in the eyes because I just want them to know that I care.

Yesterday, for one of the first times in my life, everyone looked back at me. In the midst of all of this chaos, it completely warmed my heart and gave me great hope. What gives you hope?
